Chris Murphy moves to White Sox as Red Sox make trades.

The Boston Red Sox made several moves on Tuesday, including trading left-hander Chris Murphy to the Chicago White Sox. Murphy, who had a 3-0 record and a 3.12 ERA in 23 relief appearances for the Red Sox last season, was also successful in the minors with a 1-0 record and a 2.93 ERA.
Murphy, a 27-year-old player drafted by Boston in 2019, missed the 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery. In exchange for Murphy, Boston received minor league catcher Ronny Hernández, who, at 21 years old, batted .251 with four home runs and 34 RBIs in 82 games for Single-A Kannapolis.
Additionally, the Red Sox sent right-hander Alex Hoppe to the Seattle Mariners and left-hander Brennan Bernardino to the Colorado Rockies. In return, they acquired minor league catcher Luke Heyman from the Mariners and outfielder Braiden Ward from the Rockies. Bernardino, 33, had a 4-3 record and a 3.14 ERA in 55 appearances for the Red Sox last season.
On the same day, the Red Sox designated veteran first baseman Nathaniel Lowe and right-hander Josh Winckowski for assignment. They also added infielder Tristan Gray to their roster in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, giving up minor league righty Luis Guerrero in return.
